this show shouldn’t work. you shouldn’t be able to throw random chinese slang into dialogue, dress people alternately like they’re in westerns or in 19th century europe, and then launch them into space, and expect it to work. and yet it does. a bipolar universe with western space pirates is actually the weirdest concept ever, and yet this show is never confined to the ‘verse, either. the characters alone make this show one of the best ever. and when you combine all of these elements… it should be a disaster. instead, it’s firefly.
