I really appreciate that Obama isn’t trying to make himself seem more “folksy”.  A professor of mine pointed out that Obama, when talking to the public, throws in a lot of colloquialisms and “ain’t”s as a way to keep himself from looking “too intellectual”, which is an accusation that’s been leveled against him far, far too often.

The guy I was talking to also pointed out that, because he’s African-American, Obama has to follow a lot of unspoken rules of how he is “allowed” to talk on the public stage because America is still not ready to see an African-American rhetorically destroy a white guy on TV.  Perhaps this is why Obama isn’t being as agressive as he could be in this debate.  

At the same time, it’s good to see he’s not bringing his language down.
